About R2D2: R2D2 is the TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development at IIT Madras, headed by Prof. Sujatha Srinivasan of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The group is involved in research related to human movement, and the design and development of rehabilitation and assistive devices for people with movement impairments.

R2D2 engineers affordable products for rehabilitation needs in India and beyond, works with clinical specialists, NGOs, hospitals, etc., to field-test the designs, and fosters a research environment to evaluate assistive device designs from biomechanical and functional standpoints. Using appropriate technology, scientific methods and innovative translational models, R2D2 aims to enable easy accessibility and affordability of assistive devices and rehabilitation resources. R2D2 has successfully transferred technology to like-minded industrial partners including its startup, NeoMotion.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The ‘Product Design Head’ role is one of the key positions at R2D2 and we are looking for an awesome individual to lead our product development initiatives in the assistive devices space, using user-centric design.

Key Requirements

  • Hands on in the complete journey of product development – product discovery to production

  • Fine understanding of user requirements

  • Bridging user-centric design and design for manufacturing

  • Leading the design team to build top class assistive devices

This position will report to the Head/Principal Investigator, R2D2 Lab


PERSON OVERVIEW

We are looking for someone passionate about assistive product design to lead the development activities at R2D2, IIT Madras (r2d2.iitm.ac.in). Our ideal candidate is a person who can interact with a diverse group of people to deliver outstanding results: functional, meaningful and affordable assistive devices for people with disability, from the concept stage to manufacturing.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or if other streams, extensive experience in Mechanical Design

Experience

Mandatory: Minimum 3 years of experience in a role involving mechanical design and product development. Experience in assistive technologies would be given preference.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The 'Junior Clinical Specialist' will support the research and development of assistive devices and clinical training of rehabilitation professionals

Key Requirements

  • Data collection for research projects

  • Developing documentation for research proposals for ethics approval

  • Clinical evaluation of persons with disabilities

  • Biomechanical and ergonomic inputs for designing complex rehabilitation technology

  • Presentations at workshops/conferences

  • Organizing clinical trials for research and development activity

This position will report to the Head of Clinical Team, R2D2 Lab


PERSON OVERVIEW

We are looking for someone passionate about assistive devices, research, training to support our activities at R2D2, IIT Madras (r2d2.iitm.ac.in). Our ideal candidate is a person who can interact with a diverse group of people to deliver outstanding results.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy or physiotherapy (B.O.T or B.P.T)

Experience

Preferable: 1 year experience with neurological disorders like SCI, stroke etc. Experience in assistive technologies would be given preference.
